As of this year, I have decided to study Art History with the Open University.
There are various reasons for this, but primarily, I believe that studying other artists will enhance my own practice in the coming years. Since completing my degree, I’ve had a quiet year – deliberately so, 7 years of full time study is a commitment, and it’s been good to take stock and reflect.
I’ve spent a couple of days in schools, with a mind to taking a teaching qualification. For now, though, the MA is my preferred route. It’s very clear this involves a lot of work. I’m ready for it.
Today is also the day I registered as self employed. I still have a full time job, but it’s now official. I’m registered as an artist. I have an obligation to create art, to sell art, to make an income from art. It’s what I should have done 30 years ago.
Today is the start of the rest of my life. There are big challenges ahead.
